Winnie Madikizela-Mandela celebrated her 70th birthday with a lavish bash at Vodaworld in Johannesburg on Sunday night.
Although Madikizela-Mandela turned 70 in September last year, celebrations were put on hold so special guests like former president Nelson Mandela and his wife Graca Machel could attend.
It was a night of praises for Winnie as she was seated next to Nelson Mandela and his wife Graca Machel.
She watched with delight as musicians entertained the crowd.
Nelson Mandela said Winnie has been a pillar of strength and a beacon of hope through the difficult times in his life.
President Thabo Mbeki said she stands out as an icon and has made immense sacrifices for our democracy.
Madikizela-Mandela said her journey is only beginning and that she looks forward to taking the next step as much more still needs to be done in the fight against poverty.
