Should Cuomo resign?
Mar. 8th, 2021 06:53 pmFrankly, I'm torn between yes and no. I'd probably opt for No until a formal investigation is conducted. We cannot force men or women to resign based on what a person says... years later. Everyone deserves due process. If we start forcing people to resign over he said, she said, this is going to open up a stinky can of worms. Two things will happen, men will live in fear of anything they say or do, right or wrong, truth or lie; and women will be looked over in the workplace because they are "too much trouble". Men and women will start distrusting each other in the workplace, and that will destroy the team approach that's been encouraged for decades.
Yet, I would vote Yes if these allegations turn out to be true. We can't allow men or women in power to abuse people who are not in powerful positions.
The nursing home deaths should be investigated separately though, as this falls under incompetence for the job and is not a civil rights issue. He was either aware or involved in manipulating the numbers regarding the nursing home deaths.
Also, at some point that many accusations of sexual harassment turn into a distraction.
Ultimately, not my call - and I'm glad for it. I doubt I would vote for him for Governor if he ran in my state. At least not in a primary election. Were it a choice between him and any Republican candidate, I suppose I would have to hold my nose and vote for the lesser of two evils.
Anyway. Generally speaking, if any state Governor is guilty of committing crimes, then resignation would be the appropriate course of action. We just don't know if he is actually guilty - not yet.
