...Curious, nonetheless.
The year is 2020, and the Bild newspaper from Germany has made an interview with Adolf Hitler. Nope, I'm not talking of that Hitler. This is Adolf Hitler Uunona, the guy who has won in his constituency at a local election in Namibia.

He's far from getting at the helm of the Third Reich or anything like that. Rather, he'll be sitting at the regional council of one of the 13 regions of Namibia. His win was a landslide, 85%. No surprise, since he is of the ruling SWAPO party. The constituency is Ompundja in North Namibia.
Hilarious, isn't it? His dad sure didn't have an idea who the original Adolf Hitler was. I'm sure his name must have sounded just fine to young A.H.Uunona as he was growing up in Ompundja. One could only hope he is not planning to take over the world, but you never know. After all, young Boris Johnson's dream was to become king of the world - and look where he is now!
Here he is, the Adolf Hitler of the 21st century.

Actually, he's known in his country as a civil rights fighter. He took part in the struggle against Apartheid as member of SWAPO. This is the force that led a campaign against colonialism and white supremacy, and won Namibia its independence from South Africa.
Adolf Hitler has been quite open about his life in interviews. He admits his wife calls him Adolf. At first he introduced himself to people with his surname, Uunona. But he never intended to change his name.
In fact, Adolf is a frequent name in Namibia, a former German colony. There's a German newspaper, German radio stations, German street names like Bathoffstrasse and Bismarckstrasse, and other German place names. A German-speaking minority still lives there as well.
Curiously, there used to be a bar named Blitzkrieg in Namibia until recently, and it catered to heavy metal fans. And the SWAPO headquarters is at Hans-Dietrich-Genscherstrasse.
Namibia was a German colony between 1884 and 1915, and was known as German South-West Africa. Then South Africa annexed it in 1915, and Namibia eventually earned its independence in 1990. One of its darkest moments was between 1904-1908, when the German Empire murdered about 80,000 tribal rebels, the so called forgotten genocide.
SWAPO has been ruling since 1990. It tends to have a solid majority, similarly to the ANC here in South Africa. They comfortably won the latest parliamentary election in 2019, but have been losing ground since then due to a string of corruption scandals. Adolf Hitler, however, seems to be doing just fine at the political stage. We wish him good luck! ;-)
