The lady who stopped Internet
Apr. 8th, 2011 09:18 pmEver made a small mistake with huge consequences?

A butterfly, waiting to wreak havoc.
A Georgian woman cut off all internet services to Armenia when digging for copper. Tell us your experiences of such mishaps
We've all heard the idea that a butterfly flapping his wings on one side of the world can create a hurricane on the other – the smallest of actions sometimes having earth-shattering consequences.
When a 75-year-old woman from Georgia foraging for copper accidently sliced through an underground cable, the ramifications were no less significant, and rather more direct: she cut off all internet services to Armenia and parts of Georgia and Azerbaijan.
Have you ever made a small mistake that's had massive consequences? Or have you been on the receiving end of a minute mishap?

Date: 2011-04-09 03:19 am (UTC)yes i do ditsy things all the time (people say i must dye my hair brown/black lol)
once @ work i ordered 9000 milliliters of a product, or so i thought. i come to work the next day only to get a message from my supplier: 2 of 9000 crates (which would've been > x10^12 ml) shipped - 8998 placed on back-order.
oh gosh it took forever to get that out of inventory :/ not to mention i ordered the entire available stock within a 100 mile radius Yikes!
this scenario was two-sided. a) i was at the receiving end since a colleague did not correctly set the par levels to begin with. b) i was also a participant because i had not caught the initial mistake made in a previous month & i usually do!
