Guard kills banana thief with spear

nairiporterA security guard allegedly killed a banana thief with a spear in Kwa-Mbonambi, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Thursday.
Captain Jabulani Mdletshe said two men had been stealing bananas from a plantation at Nowhere Farm, Kwa-Mbonambi in Lower Umfolozi on Wednesday night when they were spotted by the security guard.
"When the thieves saw the guard approaching, they began running and the guard gave chase," said Mdletshe.
"He struck one thief with a spear and the 38-year-old man died at the scene."
The second man managed to escape and report the matter.
Mdletshe said the security guard was arrested and will appear in the Kwa-Mbonambi Magistrate's Court on a murder charge. - Sapa
