I think most people expect way too much from UFOs. UFO could be exactly that. Nothing more. Maybe (most likely) it's just a flying object unknown to them. Maybe it's Russians, maybe a drone from some guy's backyard.

Could be shifting people's attention away from real problems. It wouldn't be the first time.

A lot of money is involved in research. As with any endeavour involving money, there will be a percentage of scientists that will do anything to get their hands on the money.
However, reputable scientific journals, through the peer review process, will always figure out the truth. The scientific method will always win, with time.
