President Thabo Mbeki has given the strongest indication yet that he's ready to retain the presidency of the ANC if the membership of the party asks him to do so. The President says ANC traditions will not allow him to reject the will of members.
Mbeki told the SABC in Windhoek that leading the ANC is not about personal ambition, but serving the people.
The last day of Mbeki's state visit was spent in discussions with investors. He called on investors to help regional governments fight poverty. Mbeki also visited Katutura township to see the extent of poverty.
While the President sought to instil investor confidence in the regions' economies, back at home there is speculation that this would take a knock if Mbeki avails himself for another term as the ruling party's leader.
